Many families don't own tools...and if they do, they want to use them for their own jobs. What becomes a challenge in Dekpor? Well, the people get called to do communal labour. Each family is expected to have a representative provide free labour for jobs that need to be done, such as cleaning out ditches. Now, imagine taking your only shovel to a town job and it getting broken. Who replaces it? No one.
Years ago, we decided that it would help if WE provided tools that each town--Dekpor Yia, Dekpor Dome, and Dekpor Horme--could use for communal labour obligations. You'll notice they are colour-coded.
We've just provided 80 shovels, 8 pick axes, 4 adzes to the three towns.
